2012 OSU Ecampus graduates

Carla June Stewart – Social advocate wastes no time using new skills

Ph.D. in Counseling
Ketchum, Idaho

What does earning your OSU degree mean to you?
Earning a degree in counseling is fulfilling my lifelong dream of becoming a counselor educator. Learning during my program opened unimaginable doors and enhanced the way I live in the world. I am grateful for the opportunities the program offered.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Ecampus? What did you enjoy about this method of education?
I was unable to quit my job and become a resident at a university. The hybrid counseling program provided an opportunity to continue full-time work and live in my community while I learned. I believe my learning was enhanced by continuing to work in my community, applying the theories and concepts I learned to my current job!

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?
Kathy Biles, Debbie Rubel, Daniel Stroud and Mark Stauffer were sensitive to the needs of students not in resident on or near campus. Each reached out when I asked for support or encouragement. I am deeply grateful for their willingness to challenge, connect and encourage me.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
The students and interns I serve have already benefited from my learning. I hope I will continue to grow as a professional and work to improve equity in education and as an advocate for social justice.
