Developing an Online Course

This workshop is a six-week training session designed to jumpstart the development of your first online course and create course materials appropriate for online learning in a collaborative environment. The workshop is facilitated by the Assistant Director for Ecampus Course Development and Training, Katherine McAlvage, and a team of instructional designers. You’ll receive feedback from a cohort of peers and an instructional designer throughout the workshop.

Hybrid developments: Developers of Ecampus hybrid courses will receive specialized support along the way from Hybrid Initiative Coordinator Cub Kahn. One synchronous meeting is required for hybrid course developers.

Workshop details

• Who: Faculty actively developing an online course (MOU required*)
• When: Fall 2023 session starts on Monday, October 9th
• Where: Online (with one optional synchronous session for online course developers)
• How: Commitment of approximately 25 hours total over six weeks

If you successfully complete the workshop and have a signed memorandum of understanding (MOU), you are eligible to receive a $500 department-to-department transfer of funds as part of your course development.

 

Redeveloping an Online Course

This advanced, four-week workshop guides you through an analysis of your current online course and the planning process for a redevelopment in a facilitated environment with a cohort of peers. You will select from a series of deep-dive modules that allow you to explore specific aspects of course design or delivery that you hope to improve in the next iteration of your course.

The final project in each track that you select involves articulating an innovative strategy that you will use to strengthen one aspect of your redeveloped course.

Hybrid developments: Developers of Ecampus hybrid courses will receive specialized support along the way from Hybrid Initiative Coordinator Cub Kahn. One synchronous meeting is required for hybrid course redevelopers.

• Who: Faculty actively redeveloping an online course that they have previously taught (MOU required*)
• When: Fall 2023 session starts on Monday, October 9th
• Where: Online
• How: Commitment of 15-20 hours total over four weeks

If you successfully complete the workshop and have a signed MOU, you are eligible to receive a $350 department-to-department transfer of funds as part of your course redevelopment.
