Health Care Certificate Offered in Southern Oregon
December 2005
CORVALLIS – Oregon State University is pleased to announce the addition of a new partner to its popular health care administration certificate program – Asante Health System in Medford, Oregon will begin offering the program in February to its staff as well as community members who work in the health care industry, or are planning a career in health care in the future.
"We are excited about the partnership with OSU and the educational opportunity it presents to our staff and the community," said Roy Vinyard, Asante President and CEO. "Healthcare organizations cannot achieve medical excellence without the support of strong leadership, and we are committed to helping our leaders of tomorrow succeed."
The six-course HCA program is taught through OSU’s College of Health and Human Sciences and Department of Public Health and offers credit courses covering a wide range of topics including health care organization behavior and theory, financial management, information systems, and law. Instructors are experienced professionals with backgrounds in health care, business and academia. Coordinated through OSU Extended Campus, the HCA program is offered via a flexible “hybrid” delivery system, with four courses offered on the Web and two taught on-site in Medford. Completion of the sequence culminates in a graduate certificate, or students may take credits applicable toward an undergraduate degree in Public Health.
The health care administration certificate program is currently offered at Samaritan Health Services in Corvallis, Albany, and Lebanon, and St. Charles Medical Center in Bend. Working professionals who have taken the course sequence in the past have appreciated the flexibility and the curriculum.
“I have discovered invaluable information, resources and connections that have greatly accelerated my development as a professional in the health care field. Taking the sequence has not only increased my knowledge, but improved my organization as a whole,” remarked Andrea Cable, Executive Director of the Central Oregon Independent Practice Association.
The first course in the Asante series, Organization Theory and Behavior in Health Care, is offered on-site in the Smullin Health Education Center on the Rogue Valley Medical Center campus in Medford on Feb. 11-12, 2006.
