Program Overview

OSU Extended Campus offers a non-credit course in Discrimination and the Oregon Educator. This course consists of a packet of reading material (approx. 60 pages) that is mailed to your home for completion. There are eight essay questions you must respond to. The duration of the course depends on how long you choose to complete the course material. Some students have completed the essay questions over a weekend, others have taken several months. Once you return your essay questions, along with the affidavit to Professor O'Malley, it takes about 3 weeks to receive your certificate of completion. 

Note: Please complete this exam by September 1, 2009.  Effective October 1, 2009, this course will no longer be offered and will be replaced by the ORELA Civil Rights And Equity in Education subtest offered through the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices (TSPC) Commission. Curriculum

This course is designed to meet the requirements of the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission (TSPC) for the study of state and federal laws that apply to schools and teaching. Applicants for licensure must demonstrate knowledge of Title VI of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and state and federal statutes prohibiting discrimination.

Course curriculum packet consists of reading materials describing these federal and state laws, a civil rights test, and a supplemental reading packet. Upon completion of eight essay questions, submitted with a signed affidavit, students who receive a passing grade will receive their certificate of completion.

You can register and pay online through OSU Marketplace. The cost for this course is $75.00. We take Visa and MasterCard, or you can pay by check. The exam packet is usually mailed out in the next day's mail, after we receive payment.

Refund Policy

The Discrimination and the Oregon Educator reading and exam packet must be returned unused & unopened to qualify for a refund.

  • Upon receiving the unused & unopened exam packet, $50.00 will be refunded.
  • $25.00 will be charged for shipping / handling fees.
  • If payment was made by credit card, $50.00 will be credited back to the credit card.
  • If payment was made by check, a $50.00 refund check will be issued.
  • Allow 3 weeks for processing refund payments.
