Procedures and Forms for the Online Masters in Education Degree
Follow the links below for step-by-step success in applying for and completing the online Education Masters program.
"My only regret in life was not finishing my degree. I chose a distance degree for its convenience. Now I have no regrets, only new goals."
Robin Robinson
Ecampus Liberal Studies Graduate
Step One
The first step is to apply for admission to Oregon State University as a “degree-seeking graduate student.”
Step Two
You must also apply for admission to the Education Masters program. Start the process by completing and submitting this online form. To complete the application, you must send supporting documents by mail or as attachments to e-mail to:
Kristin Kinman
Administrative Program Assistant
210 Education Hall
Corvallis, Oregon 97331-3502
The required documents include:
- a letter of application that includes your goals in applying to the program, an affirmation that you are teaching in a P-12 classroom at least half-time, and a statement attesting to your ability to function successfully in an online environment.
- official transcripts from all the colleges and universities you have attended.
- three letters of recommendation (one personal, one professional, and one from college/university faculty)
- your current resume or vita including employment history and teaching experience.
- a 3-5 page essay on a current education topic - this may be a description of a situation or issue, a position paper advocating for or against an issue, or a summary of a problem and solution(s). Use APA publication style, with references.
- a one-page statement of your knowledge and/or experience with diversity, using the following as a guide: "graduates of the Education Masters embrace diversity and are able to navigate and thrive in diverse settings and cultures (e.g., social, economic, political, religious, geographical, generational, linguistic, ethnic, racial, gender)."
- TOEFL and TWE scores (international students only).
Step Three
When you are accepted into the program, you will receive confirmation via email. You will then be able to register for courses.
Step Four
Prior to or during the term in which you will complete 18 credits toward the degree, you must file a Program of Study form. The form will include a list of the required courses and your chosen Focused Area of Study courses (electives).
Note: you will not be allowed to register for additional courses beyond the 18 credits until the Program of Study is approved.
For your convenience, we now have Program of Study forms that you can submit via the web. If you are ready to develop a Program of Study form now, or if you need assistance in your choices, contact the program coordinator or advisor listed below.

You and your major professor also will determine what projects, portfolios, or synthesis papers will demonstrate that you have met the program outcomes (the program Capstone).
