Management & Human Resource Skills for Pharmacists
Addressing different scenarios
Each of the nine modules starts with a short scenario at Wibbins Pharmacy. You will meet Frank Wibbins and share with him some of the frustrations common to pharmacy supervisors. In each module there is a 10-question pre-test to help you determine what you already know about that module's topic. At the end you will revisit Wibbins Pharmacy to see how Frank is doing and then move on to the post-module assessment. Through the process you will find a helpful glossary of terms and acronyms as well as suggestions for further reading or other websites that may provide helpful reference.
Learning modules address the following topics:
The pharmacist's need for accurate performance appraisal skills.
- Real pharmacy scenarios.
- The fear of confrontation.
- The "big picture" of management and HR.
- What harassment is and how to handle harassment issues.
- Diversity issues.
- The legal issues every pharmacist needs to know: discrimination, OSHA / Safety, ADA, FMLA, as well as, performance management, motivation, coaching, documentation and discipline.
- Understanding HR language and documentation.
- Stress and conflict management.
- HR policies.
- Communication skills, including how to raise the difficult issues and how to deal with difficult situations.
It is recommended that you start with module 1 and proceed numerically through to module 9 as this reflects the logic of the class and will enable you to get the most benefit from the process. However, each module is designed to stand alone and can be done in any sequence that reflects your interests.
