Online General Chemistry fits into your schedule

We invite you to discover the flexibility and Benefits of completing a full-year sequence of online General Chemistry as part of your undergraduate degree program. Through OSU Extended Campus Online Chemistry & Lab Courses and the OSU Chemistry Department, General Chemistry becomes a reality for out-of-state and distance students.

We currently offer two General Chemistry sequences online:

General Chemistry - 121, 122, 123

This General Chemistry sequence is a prerequisite sequence for students in a variety of the science and health-related fields. Students with majors in physical science, biological science, environmental sciences, health, exercise, nutrition, nursing and natural resources may require these chemistry survey courses in their program of study.

General Chemistry Online - Summer 09

No OSU campus visits are required and all course components are completed online, including:

  • Labs completed online within course
  • Online interactive group discussions
  • Online exams, quizzes and homework

For a preview of the sequence, view our YouTube Video featuring instructor Richard Nafshun. Students completing CH 121, 122, and 123 are very well prepared for upper-division course continuation, including our online Organic Chemistry sequence.

General Chemistry - 231, 232, 233

This higher-level General Chemistry sequence's concepts and focus is geared toward students majoring in most sciences, pharmacy, and chemical, biological and environmental engineering. CH 231, 232 and 233 are the lecture portions of the sequence and are available completely online, including discussions, video supplements, exams and quizzes.

CH 261, 262 and 263 are the corresponding lab components of the sequence and are hybrid online/on-site courses that require hands-on, on-campus lab experience available in an intensive weekend delivery format. Visit the General Chemistry Labs page for info on completing CH 261, 262 and 263, the lab components of this sequence. The sequence along with the labs satisfies OSU's undergraduate bacc core requirements.

Costs and transferring credit

Many students from other colleges and universities take our courses online to transfer credit to their home institutions. OSU operates on a quarter-based academic calendar. View our Transferring Credits page to find information how OSU credits will transfer to your home institution, especially if your college or university operates on a semester-based academic calendar.

Additionally, in-state and out-of-state students pay the same Tuition & Fees for all OSU Ecampus online courses.
