Wastewater Installer Online
OSU now offers online courses for wastewater practitioners
Offered through OSU Extended Campus in partnership with the College of Agricultural Sciences, this online course is approved by the Oregon Environmental Services Advisory Council (OESAC). The Introductory Soils for Onsite Wastewater Practitioners course provides the basic principles of soil science needed to comprehend the successful utilization of soil as a component in onsite waste water system. The soil is major component of the onsite waste water treatment process. A basic understanding of how to use and not abuse the soil will aid in completing an onsite installation.
The Wastewater Installer Online course is divided into three modules:
- Physical Properties of Soil
Soil texture, soil structure, soil density, soil compaction and soil consistence and consistency. View module. - Hydrology of Soil Materials
Capillary rise, gross water movement, hydraulic conductivity, permeability, infiltration and percolation. View module. - Soil Chemistry
Chemical exchange processes in the soil, acidity/alkalinity, waste cycling by microbes and redoximorphic features. View module.
- Soil Morphology and Soil Color
- Landscape Position
- Landform Geology of Oregon
Course Fee and Certificate
Participants earn 0.1 CEU for the successful completion of each module which requires a 70 percent passing score on a 10-question quiz. Participants are able to view the module presentation during the quiz. Each module including the exam costs $40 and all three modules with the exams can be purchased independently.
CEUs are Oregon Environmental Services Advisory Council (OESAC) approved and are applicable to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) requirements for onsite re-certification.
