Ecampus honored for commitment to military students

CORVALLIS, Ore. – For the third straight year, Oregon State University Extended Campus is being nationally recognized for its commitment to military men and women.

G.I. Jobs magazine has recognized OSU as one of the nation’s Military Friendly Schools, and honors Ecampus as being among the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that do the most to embrace America’s service members and veterans as students. The list is available online at http://bit.ly/ojj65N

Based partly on feedback from military members now in college, the list is a valuable resource to help guide prospective student veterans to an institution that will meet their educational and career needs. OSU Ecampus scored points for its quality academic programs, convenient online format and more.

“The flexibility to watch the Ecampus lectures and complete the assignments when I have the opportunity is very compatible with my rapidly changing schedule,” said U.S. Air Force space and missile lieutenant Jason Watts, who is a master of radiation health physics student in Minot, N.D. “The needs of the Air Force take priority over schooling, but Ecampus is able to fit in between.”

G.I. Jobs devised the list through extensive research and a data-driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide. The magazine chose 1,518 institutions for its latest directory, and OSU Ecampus was among a small group to make the cut among public, nonprofit programs offering online degrees.

In addition to the fact that its online students receive the same OSU degree as on-campus students, G.I. Jobs selected Ecampus for several reasons, including:

  • Scholarships are offered to military members, veterans and their dependents;
  • Service men and women can take accredited courses anytime, anywhere in the world;
  • Credits are awarded for military training and experience.

“Ecampus is proud to provide veterans and members of our military with access to a high-quality OSU education no matter where they live,” said Ecampus executive director Lisa Templeton. “We are dedicated to providing them with the resources they need to thrive as distance students while serving our country.”
