Faculty Spotlight: Open Source and Open Minded

By Carly Johansen
December 1, 2020

Using open source materials is one of the many things that makes Charlotte Wickham an award-winning online instructor.

She’s known among her Oregon State Ecampus students as someone who encourages innovation and creativity. Working with the Open Educational Resources Unit to find open source resources means she keeps a goal of lower course cost and a more custom student experience in mind. Moreover, many of her students would tell you they designed their own final projects, based on their own interests.

Charlotte’s not afraid of the extra work that student ingenuity might create for her. Like many at Oregon State, she has high hopes that students trying new things could lead to a discovery that could have a wider impact.

Our students and faculty come from diverse locations and walks of life, and they all leave with one thing in common: the Oregon State work ethic and drive for improvement that you’ll always find in those who call themselves Beavers.

Beavers don’t let anything stand in the way of progress, and they find ways to improve the world around them. Are you ready to do the same?

If so, find a program that aligns with your goals, and get started with your application today.
