They dive into challenges facing their communities and environments, and through interactive learning opportunities across Oregon State Ecampus degree programs, they\u2019re able to apply their learning right where they live and study.<\/p>\n<p>Lindsay Caplan\u2019s hands-on learning journey in the OSU Ecampus <a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/online-degrees\/undergraduate\/fw\/?utm_source=ecampus-news&amp;utm_medium=affiliate&amp;utm_campaign=interactive-learning-activities&amp;utm_content=20190301\">fisheries, wildlife, and conservation sciences<\/a>\u00a0bachelor\u2019s program began with a map she received in her mailbox.<\/p>\n<p>Redefining the traditional homework assignment, that map led Lindsay to conduct a wilderness expedition and record information about the natural resources around her hometown of Owings Mills, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was required to use a compass to draw out a specific route and locate things in the wilderness. I spent hours poring over that map. I\u2019ll never forget the feeling of finally figuring it out, sending it to my instructor and receiving a great grade,\u201d says Lindsay, who graduated in June 2018.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat experience encouraged me that I could work just as hard and learn just as much online as students on campus did.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"textBox\" style=\"width: 30%;\">\n<h2>Preview online learning with OSU Ecampus<\/h2>\n<p>Oregon State instructors partner with Ecampus multimedia developers to create dynamic online learning environments. Get a sneak peek at interactive course content across multiple disciplines.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"button\"><a title=\"Browse the Oregon State Ecampus course demo and multimedia showcase\" href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/course-demo\/?utm_source=ecampus-news&amp;utm_medium=affiliate&amp;utm_campaign=interactive-learning-activities&amp;utm_content=20190301\">Take a tour<\/a><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<p>In addition to lab kits she received in the mail, Lindsay also experienced a combination of virtual and in-person field trips while earning her degree.<\/p>\n<p>With access to virtual and augmented reality environments and a first-of-its-kind virtual 3D microscope, Ecampus students learn to use tools and procedures specific to their field that can be leveraged in their career.<\/p>\n<p>Assignments in an online archaeology class gave <a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/online-degrees\/undergraduate\/anth\/?utm_source=ecampus-news&amp;utm_medium=affiliate&amp;utm_campaign=interactive-learning-activities&amp;utm_content=20190301\">anthropology<\/a> alumna Elizabeth Leiss the opportunity to work closely with 3D models of pottery sherds.<\/p>\n<p>When she landed an internship in her home state with the North Dakota State Historical Society, Elizabeth directly applied the skills she learned in her classes to help preserve the same kinds of important historical artifacts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the things I had been learning about in class just came to life,\u201d she says. \u201cI love that I got to work with artifacts and help in their preservation.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\"><\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> 2<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute read<\/span><\/span>Oregon State University students are eager for an education that moves their ideas from concept to action.
