In an effort to give students everywhere a more accessible pathway to careers in the life sciences with a focus on animals, Oregon State University has launched the nation\u2019s first\u00a0online bachelor\u2019s degree program in zoology<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new program combines Oregon State\u2019s expertise in the life sciences with its industry-leading work in online education to provide students with a solid foundation in the biological sciences at all levels.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the only program of its kind in the country, the online zoology major offers interdisciplinary scientific training in all aspects of the biology of animals \u2013 from genes to ecosystems,\u201d said Sally Hacker, professor in OSU\u2019s Department of Integrative Biology.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot only will students learn from faculty who are nationally recognized in their teaching and research, but they will also be able to tailor their studies to meet their interests in animal biology through a series of elective courses.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oregon State zoology graduates are well-equipped to work in a variety of fields including animal care and husbandry; curatorial and museum management; laboratory animal research; and environmental consulting.<\/p>\n

The program also offers a host of experiential learning opportunities. One such option enables students to enroll in marine biology and other marine science summer courses<\/a>\u00a0offered at OSU\u2019s Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport, Oregon.<\/p>\n

Oregon State has been teaching life sciences, including zoology, for more than 100 years, and it is the only institution in Oregon that offers a bachelor\u2019s degree in zoology.<\/p>\n

All program coursework is delivered by OSU Ecampus, the university\u2019s nationally renowned provider of online education. Ecampus is\u00a0ranked No. 3\u00a0by U.S. News & World Report<\/a>\u00a0for online bachelor\u2019s programs, its fifth consecutive year in the top 10.<\/p>\n
