What does the recognition from U.S. News & World Report mean for students?<\/h2>\n

For the 12th year running, Oregon State University is listed among the nation’s top 10 online education providers by U.S. News & World Report. But when you graduate from Oregon State, your diploma won\u2019t mention that distinction.<\/p>\n

So why do we make such a big deal about it? And what does the ranking even mean?<\/p>\n

These are good and valid questions. Pursuing rankings is never a priority for us at Oregon State. Our main concerns are:<\/p>\n

1. supporting students on their way to graduation<\/p>\n

2. helping equip OSU faculty with the tools needed to teach effectively online.<\/p>\n

The reason we celebrate our high rankings from U.S. News is because they signify that we are succeeding in both of these priority areas.<\/p>\n

U.S. News ranking factors explained<\/h2>\n

In the <\/span>Best Online Bachelor\u2019s Programs list<\/span><\/a> for 2026, <\/span>Oregon State ranks No. 6 overall<\/span>. Four factors go into that ranking.<\/span><\/p>\n

Faculty credentials and training<\/h3>\n

The expertise of instructors is assessed in this category, and Oregon State consistently ranks among the nation\u2019s best in terms of faculty credentials and training. All of OSU\u2019s online bachelor\u2019s programs are developed and taught by the same faculty who teach on campus<\/span>.<\/p>\n

U.S. News also examines the ability of universities to effectively train and prepare faculty to teach online. That is one of our core strengths. Our <\/span>faculty development program<\/span><\/a> has won national awards for excellence, and the Oregon State instructors who teach courses online are the best at what they do<\/span>.<\/p>\n

Peer assessment<\/h3>\n

In 2026, Oregon State received the highest score in the nation in the peer assessment category, which means that other colleges and universities consider OSU to be one of the country\u2019s best providers of online education.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It also indicates that employers may value degrees that are earned from programs that academic experts respect.<\/span><\/p>\n

Engagement<\/h3>\n

In the engagement category, U.S. News examines how well programs promote participation in online courses among students and faculty.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Oregon State online bachelor\u2019s programs feature innovative solutions that make it possible for students to have <\/span>collaborative learning experiences<\/span><\/a> no matter where they live.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Student services and technologies<\/h3>\n

The services and technologies category evaluates how programs incorporate diverse online learning technologies, as well as <\/span>support systems related to learning<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>career guidance<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>financial aid resources<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Oregon State students manage multiple roles and have many other commitments that shape their lives. We <\/span>learn from students<\/span><\/a> and look for opportunities to smooth their path to graduation and a successful career.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Building better online bachelor\u2019s degree experiences<\/h2>\n

We\u2019re proud that <\/span>Oregon State is recognized<\/span><\/a> as a model for excellence in online education. But here\u2019s the thing about having a prestigious national reputation: Once you earn it, you have to prove every day that you deserve it.<\/span><\/p>\n
