With that in mind, Oregon State University Ecampus is excited to share a vital resource, the <a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/faculty\/standards-principles\/online-teaching\/\">Online Teaching Principles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The principles draw from research in online teaching pedagogy and practice, and they provide the groundwork for talking about what strong online teaching looks like across disciplines. They align with the seventh edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/qualitymatters.org\/qa-resources\/rubric-standards\/higher-ed-rubric\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quality Matters Higher Education Rubric<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnline course design standards are essential in developing quality online courses and programs. The Ecampus Online Teaching Principles build on our strong course design foundation to help faculty successfully facilitate online, asynchronous courses,\u201d said Shannon Riggs, the associate vice provost of educational programs and learning innovation for OSU&#8217;s Division of Educational Ventures.<\/p>\n<p>The 10 principles guide faculty to provide regular and substantive interaction for students and to cultivate an inclusive, equitable and supportive learning community:<\/p>\n<p>1. Stay current<\/p>\n<p>2. Encourage equity<\/p>\n<p>3. Communicate clearly and quickly<\/p>\n<p>4. Provide notice<\/p>\n<p>5. Commit to timeliness<\/p>\n<p>6. Be present<\/p>\n<p>7. Foster community<\/p>\n<p>8. Support students<\/p>\n<p>9. Reach out and refer<\/p>\n<p>10. Cultivate inclusion<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Online Teaching Principles are at the heart of our faculty development suite,\u201d said Katherine McAlvage, the Ecampus assistant director of faculty development and support. \u201cNew instructor training introduces faculty to each principle, and advanced professional development opportunities take a deep-dive into specific principles and their research-based applications.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<h3>Quality Matters endorses Oregon State&#8217;s Online Teaching Principles<\/h3>\n<p>This recognition represents QM\u2019s first-ever endorsement of such a tool and highlights both its alignment with quality standards and the potential impact it represents for the educational community. <a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/news\/quality-matters-endorses-oregon-state-online-teaching-principles\/\">Read the story \u00bb<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The principles offer a framework to ground conversations about high-quality online teaching and the attitudes and actions that positively impact online student success and engagement.<\/p>\n<p>Each principle is accompanied by an annotation that provides suggestions about how to put the principle into action. Links to supporting research and a full bibliography are included for reference and further study.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re excited to offer a valuable resource that articulates quality teaching practices that OSU faculty strive to deliver in providing engaging learning experiences for our students,\u201d said Karen Watt\u00e9, Ecampus senior director of course development and training.<\/p>\n<p>A leader in online education, Oregon State Ecampus has made these teaching principles available under Creative Commons license (CC BY-NC 4.0).
