In a few short courses, you can gain skills in business and communications that demonstrate your proficiency in an area and earn a digital badge to signify to employers your unique skills.<\/p>\n

Melissa Whitney is a photographer and blogger with an interest in social media who discovered Oregon State\u2019s online microcredential in the business of viral content creation<\/a>. Here, she highlights a few of the benefits she has gained from pursuing this business and communications microcredential online.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith microcredentials, I can explore my interests while building a portfolio of various specializations. I can earn a digital badge or badges to add to my r\u00e9sum\u00e9 \u2026 and eventually I could earn a certificate or another degree if I decide to go in that direction.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gaining relevant, timely and in-demand skills<\/h2>\n

\u201cI am an avid social media user and blogger, so for me it has been exciting to learn more about branding myself as a photographer<\/a> and exploring ways to monetize more of what I am already doing \u2014 all things I am learning about in the courses that make up the business of viral content creation microcredential.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been pushed out of my comfort zone in multiple ways and have established some awesome connections. I have learned media writing skills, interview skills, research skills, marketing, and social media skills, and so much more.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMost microcredentials are just a few courses. The business of viral content creation consists of three courses and with my schedule, I can only take one class at a time. A microcredential feels much more manageable, and I can stop in and out as needed until I complete it.\u201d<\/p>\n
