Or you can start now.<\/p>\n<p>For Eric Broadfoot, his \u201cnow\u201d came as his family began to grow, and he knew it was his moment to take a step closer toward his aspirations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI decided to go back to school to earn my degree because my wife, Courtney, and I got married and we were having a child, and I wanted to move up in the company I was working for,\u201d he says. \u201cGiven all of those aspects, I knew it was very important to finish my education.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After extensive research online, Eric chose to enroll with<a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/\"> Oregon State University Ecampus<\/a> for its consistent ranking among the top online bachelor\u2019s programs in the nation and the flexibility it offered him as a working professional who needed to provide for his family.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"smartquote\">&ldquo;<\/span>Even though my son, Jack, was only an infant while I pursued my degree, I always felt motivated to focus and continue on when I thought about him.<span class=\"smartquote\">&rdquo;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The Ecampus economics program provided a good framework to make decisions in his job as a project manager for an engineering and construction firm in Madison, Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI manage heavy industrial construction projects, and economics training allows me to make cost benefit analysis, which is very important on construction projects,\u201d Eric says. \u201cIt\u2019s also important in scheduling and budgeting. And the business minor helped me with leadership skills and managing jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-670 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/news\/assets\/EricBroadfootEmbed2.png?resize=250%2C250&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Eric Broadfoot sits in an open seating area near a set of stairs. In front of him, a notebook and pen rest on a coffee table.\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Although he physically wasn\u2019t on campus, Eric says being connected to the professors and using interactive learning materials from a distance were key to his success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I like most about the economics program here at Ecampus is the coursework, the interaction with the faculty and the discussion,\u201d he says. \u201cIt was overall just a really great experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While balancing school, a full-time job and other responsibilities proved to be a challenge, his strong support system helped keep him on track.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I would feel like my courses and work were overwhelming, my wife and mother told me to just chip away at it, one assignment and one term at a time,\u201d he says. \u201cEven though my son, Jack, was only an infant while I pursued my degree, I always felt motivated to focus and continue on when I thought about him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Eric\u2019s perseverance paid off, and in June 2017 he earned a<a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/online-degrees\/undergraduate\/economics\/\"> B.S. in Economics<\/a> degree with a<a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/online-degrees\/undergraduate\/minors\/business\/\"> minor in business and entrepreneurship<\/a>. He and his family traveled from Wisconsin to celebrate his accomplishments at the OSU commencement ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Eric hopes his degree will give him upward mobility as he pursues career options in project or portfolio management.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy education\u2019s extremely important,\u201d he says. \u201cIt means everything to me that I earned my degree.
