{"id":983,"date":"2018-08-10T14:30:57","date_gmt":"2018-08-10T21:30:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/news\/?p=983"},"modified":"2024-04-02T14:14:29","modified_gmt":"2024-04-02T21:14:29","slug":"gustavo-ramos-nunez","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/news\/gustavo-ramos-nunez\/","title":{"rendered":"Strengthening native roots with higher education"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"intrinsic-container intrinsic-container-16x9\" style=\"margin-bottom: 20px;\"><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"744\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/acXGfxfUiE4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-caption video-caption-full\">\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The innovative tools and ample interaction between classmates and faculty in the Spanish program online provided Gustavo Ramos\u00a0Nu\u00f1ez the confidence and skills needed to pursue his future goals.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>By Karina Ruiz Lopez<br \/>\nAugust 10, 2018<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Accepting comfort was not enough of a challenge for Gustavo Ramos Nu\u00f1ez, whose decision to enroll in the <a href=\"https:\/\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/online-degrees\/undergraduate\/spanish\/\">Spanish bachelor\u2019s degree program online<\/a> through Oregon State Ecampus arose from honoring his Peruvian roots and a desire for self-improvement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to improve my Spanish because it\u2019s one thing to speak Spanish but another to talk and write academically,\u201d says Gustavo, who resides in Salem, Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>Gustavo is among the first students to graduate from Oregon State\u2019s online Spanish degree program. He brought the determination to succeed, and OSU Ecampus provided him access to a top-ranked education.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_986\" class=\"wp-caption wp-caption-250 alignright\" style=\"width: 250px\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-986 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ecampus.oregonstate.edu\/news\/assets\/Gustavo-graduation.jpg?resize=250%2C250&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Gustavo is pictured with his son, who attended the Oregon State graduation ceremony with him.\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gustavo, pictured above with his son at the Ecampus graduation reception in June, says he wanted to earn a degree in Spanish because \u201cit\u2019s one thing to speak Spanish but another to talk and write academically.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cGetting the Spanish degree is a huge step for me and my classmates because this is one language that is spoken in many countries,\u201d he says. \u201cThis brings more opportunities to work in different kinds of jobs and enables us to help other people who speak the same language.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his classes, Gustavo experimented with audio-visual interactive Spanish lessons that improved his understanding of course content and collaboration with his classmates. He shared and discussed class content across social media platforms, from FaceTime to Snapchat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was very interactive. It was like standing in the same room, because I could see my friends face-to-face,\u201d he says. \u201cAll of the teachers were very professional. Every time I had questions, I would post my question and in less than 24 hours they answered and gave me different options on what to do about any topic.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span class=\"smartquote\">&ldquo;<\/span>I am very well-prepared, ready to proceed in any career or program because I received the best foundation from the Spanish courses.<span class=\"smartquote\">&rdquo;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Through his online experience, Gustavo found a strong sense of belonging and confidence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very well-prepared, ready to proceed in any career or program because I received the best foundation from the Spanish courses,\u201d he says. \u201cTaking online classes was the best decision.
