Building on the PI\u2019s experience designing engaged, collaborative, and experiential learning opportunities, \u201cEvaluating the Impact of Engaged Philosophy in the Online Classroom\u201d will: 1) investigate tools, techniques and platforms for online teaching and learning for undergraduate students and 2) propose criteria for evaluating the impact of these interventions, in terms that can be measured and evaluated within the field of philosophy. The aim of this project is to demonstrate how online teaching and learning can enhance, rather than hinder, philosophical education by creating unique opportunities for community and public engagement.<\/p>\n
As an Extended Campus Research fellow, I will focus on two goals: 1) designing more effective criteria for evaluating the success of experiential, engaged assignments for undergraduate philosophy students and 2) creating faculty-focused guidelines for promoting effective assessment of online learning at the course and program-levels at OSU and beyond.<\/p>\n
To this end, funding will support two pilot projects that utilize the PI\u2019s experience as an innovator in engaged, online education and ethics curriculum development: designing new course content for the \u201cPhilosophy School of Phish,\u201d an Ecampus section of PHL 360, and implementing a cross-class collaboration with University of North Carolina Charlotte\u2019s Philosophy department.<\/p>\n
