Oregon State University OSU Ecampus Online Orientation

Planning for Your Course: FAQs

OSU ID Number - Your OSU ID Number is a unique individual number assigned to you by the University used to identify you in University records. You will use this number to log in to Online Services to obtain your records and register for classes. The OSU ID number starts with 93 and is a 9 digit number. Note: OSU ID Cards are optional for distance students. If you plan on using higher education facilities throughout the nation, or wish to receive student discounts, it could be beneficial to have one. The ID Center will mail non-photo ID cards to admitted OSU students - visit the ID Center's website for more information.

Do I really need to have all of the prerequisites before taking a course for which they are required?
Yes, usually. If you have not taken the prerequisites but feel that you have the adequate background to successfully complete the course, discuss this with your adviser. The usual procedure is for you to send an email request to the course instructor ( contact information will be in generic syllabus which is posted on the Ecampus schedule of classes), providing an explanation of past coursework that you believe prepared you to take their course, and provide your OSU Student ID number. The instructor will decide if she/he will allow you to take the course without the prerequisites.
