Michael Lovejoy – Working, studying, learning and moving on up

Michael LovejoyMaster of Natural Resources
Portland, Ore.

What does earning your OSU degree mean to you?
This will be a great accomplishment for me. Working full time and earning a degree has been hard, but once I receive my diploma it will all be worth it. I anticipate that it will open new doors into a career that is both stimulating and rewarding.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Ecampus? What did you enjoy about this method of education?
I chose Ecampus because it allowed me to continue to work while furthering my education. I enjoyed this method because it worked well with my learning style. I was able to go at my own pace but still have the structure of a traditional classroom.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?
Throughout most of my coursework I did not have an advisor, so all the choices were left up to me. I liked this because it gave me the freedom to guide my program based on my interests.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
For several years I have wanted to change career paths into watershed management. Not having the necessary degree or experience has limited the number of jobs that I could apply for and also the number of employers who would consider me for a position. Having a stronger background in natural resources, as well as a master’s-level degree, will provide me with the tools to seek out jobs that I couldn't before.
