Stephen Szabo – Graduation is just one of life's new developments

B.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Science

Stephen SzaboWhat does earning your OSU degree mean to you?
Earning my degree means a lot as it gives a sense of accomplishment and is the reward for all of the time and effort spent on college coursework over the past years. Earning my degree is exciting for me as it gives me hope for obtaining a meaningful and enjoyable career.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Extended Campus? What did you like about this method of education?
I chose to complete my degree through OSU Ecampus since it allowed me to have a full-time job and live close to my family and friends in California. The online classes at OSU were great since I could work on them whenever I had free time. I haven't had to miss out on other events in my life just because I'm a full-time college student.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?
An advisor that really helped me in obtaining my degree was Rebecca Goggans. She answered my emails right away and was always willing to set up meetings over the phone to go over my plans for completing my degree. She worked with the faculty to ensure that I got the classes I needed in order to graduate as soon as possible. She made sure that I never took a class that didn't count towards my degree.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
My degree will allow me to obtain a career, not just a job. I feel it will improve my life as it will help me find work that I enjoy and am interested in. Having a bachelor’s degree should also help me find a career which offers me benefits and financial stability. This is important to me as I recently married and would like to start a family in the near future.
