German – Online Microcredentials

Earning a microcredential in German online from Oregon State University will enhance your communication skills as you engage with the latest language-learning technologies, learn from native-speaking faculty and interact with students from all over the world.
Oregon State delivers four German language microcredentials online: Introductory German, Intermediate German I and II and Advanced German. In all the German microcredentials, you’ll develop speaking, writing, reading and comprehension skills.
Coursework
Introductory German required courses (12 credits)
Intermediate German I required courses (12 credits)
Intermediate German II required courses (12 credits)
Advanced German required courses (12 credits)
Transfer credit and placement tests may not be used toward microcredential course credits.
Prerequisite courses
Some courses within Oregon State's online microcredential offerings may require you to complete prerequisites in order to enroll. Before applying, it's important to understand the timing and schedule for when microcredential courses are offered, including any prerequisite courses.
- Intermediate German I prerequisite course: GER 113 – First-year German (4)
- Intermediate German II prerequisite course: GER 213 – Second-year German (4)
- Advanced German prerequisite course: GER 313 – Third-year German (4)

These additional courses feature high levels of engagement and interactivity with OSU faculty and fellow students, so you can boost your language proficiency.
Start working toward a German degree
Once you earn microcredentials in the German language, you can apply the credits directly toward Oregon State’s online bachelor’s degree in German.
If you plan to apply these credits toward a full degree, we encourage you to first contact the program to learn about the degree requirements. Acceptance into a microcredential does not guarantee acceptance into the degree program. Please note: A maximum of 36 credits earned as a nondegree-seeking student can be applied toward a bachelor's degree.
