Serving America's Military

HECC Veterans Housing Allowance Grant

The Higher Education Coordinating Commission (HECC) awarded OSU Ecampus a Workforce Ready grant to help support veteran Ecampus students living in Oregon and using the Post-9/11 GI Bill® to pursue degrees in health care, technology, and manufacturing. Presently, the federal government reduces the housing allowance portion of the GI Bill® for these students—simply because they are studying online. This grant funding will help make the housing allowance more equitable for veterans pursuing online degree programs in the targeted disciplines in the state of Oregon by providing funding to bridge that gap.

To be eligible, students must be:

  • an Ecampus (DSC) coded student;
  • receiving Post-9/11 GI Bill® Monthly Housing Allowance benefits;
  • currently residing in the state of Oregon;

Award process

OSU’s Veteran Certifying Officials will determine which students are eligible based on the stated criteria. There is limited funding available and priority will be given to students with higher financial need and to students closer to graduation. Funding will be dependent on the rate of pursuit and the student’s percentage of Post-9/11 GI Bill® entitlement. Applications must be received by April 7, 2023 at 4:00pm PT.

How to apply:

Complete the online application

For those who receive funding, awards will be applied to the student’s billing account after Week 4 of Spring 2023. If the student account balance is less than zero, refunds will be issued to the student depending on their selected refund method (refund check by mail or direct deposit).

Funding limit

This is currently a one-time award for Spring 2023 only. Potential future awards will be dependent on future funding.
