OC 101 – +the Blue Planet: the World's Oceans (4)
Explores the history of ocean exploration and ocean science, from early Polynesian navigators to modern autonomous, deep-sea research. Discusses how the blue planet influences our daily lives, from tsunamis to sea level rise to marine debris. Examines how oceanography is an interdisciplinary science utilizing the scientific process through the theories of plate tectonics, coral reef formation, and carbon cycle dynamics. Engages in laboratory-based learning to understand topics like ocean bathymetry, marine ecology, and deep-sea circulation. This course may be subject to Enforced Prerequisites that restrict registration into the course. Check the offerings below for more information.
