ED 150 – +Disability as Diversity: Differences Make US Human (3)

Explores a broad definition of diversity identities (identities of origin, experiences, different ways of thinking, etc), including disability as a vital aspect of human diversity and identity. Focuses on the varied experiences of individuals with disabilities alongside interpreting intersections of ableism, racism, and other systems of oppression. Analyzes how historical, social, environmental, economic, and legal factors shape these experiences. Includes key topics of disability rights, ableism, racism, inclusive language, and accessibility. Uses personal narratives and theoretical frameworks to develop students’ skills to advocate for disability rights and racial equity and promote inclusion, fostering understanding and building accessible communities.
