REL 214 – +Introduction to Islamic Traditions (4)

Examines the intellectual and lived traditions of Islam. Introduces students to themes, materials, practices, texts, and beliefs within and/or related to Islam. Explores the founding of Islam and the life of the Prophet Muhammad, as well as legal, ethical, and mystical responses to the Qur’an, Hadith, and other Islamic texts. Evaluates Islam in its diverse expressions worldwide. Utilizes object-based learning through engagement with material and visual culture. Provides a foundation to questions and methods pertinent to the study of religion. CROSSLISTED as PHL 214/REL 214.
