ANTH 245 – +Biological and Cultural Constructions of Race (3)

Examines human biological diversity, historical and cultural constructions of the race concept, and social consequences of racial and ethnic categorization in the United States. Illustrates the inadequacy of race as a scientific category while acknowledging its relevance in creating very real social categories. Emphasizes an anthropological perspective on human biology, historic antecedents and the legacy and modern impact of the race concept in current society as part of a complex system of oppression.
