SOC 341 – Police and Society (4)
Represents a social scientific examination of the field of policing rather than methods or tactics of crime control. Explores the culture of law enforcement and how police officers perform their duties and create their own impressions of their work. Examines how the field of law enforcement is influenced by historical trends, laws, cultural & occupational values, and social institutions. Discusses stereotypes, routine duties, occupational stressors, and deadly hazards of law enforcement which provide opportunities to practice and improve interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. This course may be subject to Enforced Prerequisites that restrict registration into the course. Check the offerings below for more information.
