REL 467 – +Decolonizing the Canon (4)

Explores the concept, definition, epistemic presuppositions, and border policing of disciplinary canons, especially the philosophy and religion canons in the U.S. Examines how canons are both repressive and productive, paying special attention to historical and ongoing exclusions along the lines of race, gender, sex, and coloniality. Examines the topics, methods, identities, and guiding principles of these canons by amplifying scholars from the margins who interrupt, dismantle, and reimagine canonical authority in service of better thinking and better worlds. CROSSLISTED as PHL 467/REL 467. This course may be subject to Enforced Prerequisites that restrict registration into the course. Check the offerings below for more information.
