WSE 523 – Wood as a Sustainable Material for the Future I (3)

Describes how trees grow. Examines both the macro and microfeatures of wood, their impacts on material properties, processes and various product performance. Reviews the polymers (cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin) that form plant cell walls and their roles in determining wood properties. Examines the degradation processes of wood polymers caused by physical and biotic agents, assessing their impact on wood properties and performance. This course may be subject to Enforced Prerequisites that restrict registration into the course. Check the offerings below for more information.
