COUN 573 – Introduction to Family Counseling (4)

Examines the history of family counseling; investigates family structure, dynamics, and development; explores major theoretical approaches to family counseling; applies systems perspectives to (a) understand environmental influences on individual and family functioning, development, and mental health issues; and (b) formulate interventions; explores family counseling legal and ethical issues. Examines skills and strategies for systemic collaborating with stakeholders in the community to empower children, youth, and families. Examines approaches to working with couples/marital relationships; and investigates diversity and cultural factors in family counseling. This course may be subject to Enforced Prerequisites that restrict registration into the course. Check the offerings below for more information.
