COUN 550 – Foundations of Mental Health Counseling (3)

Explores the foundations of clinical mental health counseling including: (1) historical, philosophical, societal, cultural, economic, and political dimensions of and current trends in the community human service/mental health movement; (2) roles, functions, preparation standards, credentialing, licensure, and professional identity of clinical mental health counselors; and (3) policies, laws, legislation, recognition, reimbursement, right-to-practice, and other issues relevant to clinical mental health counseling. Focuses on prevention and intervention, social justice, advocacy within the medical model, and preparation for clinical practice. This course may be subject to Enforced Prerequisites that restrict registration into the course. Check the offerings below for more information.
