A program rooted in the histories of diverse communities will invite thoughtful reflection. A program focused on modern issues will spur students into action. And Oregon State University’s online undergraduate minor in Indigenous studies will spark both experiences simultaneously.

This program will teach you about Indigenous histories and contemporary issues, build your skills for supporting Indigenous sovereignty, engage you in the work of decolonization, and prepare you to work collaboratively with or within Indigenous communities and organizations.

Guided by the expertise of Oregon State faculty members — many of whom have Indigenous roots themselves — you’ll have the opportunity to explore and embrace Indigenous perspectives and histories. The program will help you learn about contemporary Indigenous efforts toward self-determination and sovereignty.

While its lessons are important and appealing to anyone with a desire to study Indigenous cultures, this minor is especially poised to meet the interests of students who are affiliated with tribal and Indigenous communities. Program faculty and Oregon State staff are committed to supporting all students who want to access to these unique learning opportunities online while staying within their communities.

Coursework

The interdisciplinary online coursework in this minor conveys the knowledge, voices, history and the challenges that Indigenous populations face. It also highlights the resistance and activism that these communities have been engaged in for so long.
