When Albert Diaz gets home and his kids are asleep, he’ll study alongside the only Oregon State student he has met face-to-face: his wife, Samantha, a psychology major. She was the first in the family to enroll with OSU Ecampus. They have never set foot on the Oregon State campus. They both decided to apply to OSU — and become a full-fledged Beaver Nation family — thanks to a Google search. The Diaz family is a fitting example of the benefits of the university’s wildly successful distance education efforts.

Ecampus ranked #1 in U.S. for online liberal arts education

Oregon State is the best university in the nation when it comes to delivering a high-quality liberal arts education online, according to a new ranking released last month. Oregon State’s College of Liberal Arts offers 11 bachelor’s degrees and two master’s programs online through OSU Ecampus, the university’s distance education division.

Nearly 1,000 Oregon State distance students, hailing from 49 states and more than a half-dozen countries, will graduate Saturday, June 17, after completing degree requirements online through OSU Ecampus. The 960 students earning their diplomas this year far surpasses the previous high of 692 set last June.

When Samantha Diaz enrolled online with Oregon State Ecampus, she was a new mom with a job and a husband in the military. Over the years, her family added two more children and moved across the country twice. Through all of life’s twists, she thrived as a distance student and made progress on achieving her goal of teaching kids with special needs and those with troubled backgrounds.
