Policy Summary

This Privacy Policy explains how Ecampus as part of Oregon State University’s Division of Ecampus (“Ecampus”) collects and handles information from prospective students who voluntarily opt in to receive text messages via Ecampus request for information forms. Ecampus follows this Privacy Policy in the collection, use, sharing, retention, and deletion of Personal Information (as defined below). This Privacy Policy is supplemental to the Privacy Notice for Oregon State University, which also applies to Ecampus text messaging (the “SMS Service”).

By providing your mobile phone number and opting in to the SMS Service, you (“You”) consent to receive SMS communications from Oregon State Ecampus regarding your interest in enrollment and related educational opportunities, and you consent to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. Participation in the SMS Service is voluntary, and you may withdraw your consent at any time by replying STOP. For assistance, reply HELP.

Privacy Statement

Oregon State University (OSU) has a firm commitment to privacy. The following statement addresses the information-gathering and dissemination practices for Ecampus, including its website.

OSU websites generally do not collect your information (e.g., name, address or telephone number) unless you voluntarily provide it to us by sending email, participating in a survey or completing an online form. We do not share information with any third parties except where otherwise noted in this Privacy Policy, the Privacy Notice for Oregon State University, or other applicable third-party service provider policies.

When you visit OSU websites, we automatically collect certain information, such as:

• Domain, country, IP address
• Browser, platform, resolution
• Entrance-Exit Pages, Referrals
• Date, Time
• Search Terms and Search Engines

This is standard practice for websites and is not used for any purpose other than to evaluate how we can design the site to best serve your needs.

To provide better and more secure service we will occasionally use a "cookie." Security

Ecampus has security measures in place to help protect against the loss, misuse, and alteration of the information under our control. User and password information is encrypted before it is transmitted across the network.

Personal Information

By opting in to receive recruitment-related text messages from , we may ask you to provide or may collect certain Personal Information that can be used to contact or identify You. Personal Information refers to any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual and includes, but is not limited to:

• First name and last name
• Phone number
• Text message content, consent preferences, opt-in and opt-out records, and related usage data

Use of Personal Information

Ecampus uses Personal Information in accordance with this Policy to provide and improve our services to You, including for the following purposes:

• To provide and maintain the Service: including to monitor the usage of the Service.
• To manage Your Account: to manage Your registration as a user of the Service. The Personal Information You provide can give You access to different functionalities of the Service that are available to You as a registered user.
• To contact You: To contact You by SMS to provide you with information and opportunities regarding potential enrollment as an Ecampus student.
• For other purposes: OSU may use Your information for other purposes, such as data analysis, identifying usage trends, and to evaluate and improve the Service, marketing, and Your experience. When used for data analysis, information will be generally used only in aggregate and without personally identifying information.

Disclosure of Personal Information

Ecampus uses your Personal Information to provide you with information and opportunities regarding potential enrollment as an Ecampus student and does not sell Personal Information that is collected.

OSU uses the Personal Information OSU collects to further the missions of Oregon State University. Personal Information may be shared among OSU enrollment management offices to support enrollment processes and decisions.

As described in OSU’s general, Privacy Notice for Oregon State University:

• OSU Websites generally use Google Analytics, a website traffic tracking and reporting services, on many webpages. OSU adheres to Google’s data processing methods for this service, which prohibit the collection or association of personal information with web analytics.
• OSU may also use third-party technology for data collection, provide third-party service providers with the cookies it has obtained or provide third-party services with contact information voluntarily provided to OSU for such service provider to inform, optimize and serve advertisements on other websites a user visits. Serving advertisements may be based on such users’ prior visits to the OSU Site. Some third-party technologies may use cross-device tracking to serve relevant advertisements. OSU directs these service providers to not use the cookies or data provided for any purpose other than to provide the advertising services explicitly requested.

Oregon State University complies with all statutory and legal requirements that prohibit information disclosure for students, employees, and other constituents. Oregon State University will not sell, trade, or otherwise disclose any Personal Information in any manner that is not in conformity with applicable State or Federal statutes. Oregon State University may be required to use and disclose Personal Information as necessary or appropriate to comply with lawful requests and legal processes.

Third-Party Service Providers. OSU may share Personal Information with service providers that perform functions on OSU’s behalf, including providers that support text messaging, communications, analytics, hosting, and related services. These providers may access Personal Information only as necessary to provide services to OSU and are required to protect the information in accordance with applicable law and contractual obligations

Data Retention & Destruction

Your information will generally be retained by OSU in accordance with legal requirements, including applicable state and federal laws. Ecampus may retain records regarding your consent preferences, opt-in and opt-out requests, and SMS communications as necessary to administer the SMS Service and comply with legal obligations. Subject to applicable legal, records retention, and operational requirements, OSU will review and respond to deletion requests. When information is destroyed, the manner of destruction will be appropriate to preserve the confidentiality of Your Personal Information given the level of sensitivity of the data. In some cases, such as to meet legal requirements, OSU may not be able to remove your Personal Information.
