2008 Ecampus Graduates

Jennifer Dunne - From a Job, to a New Career

B.A. Liberal Studies
Portland, OR

Jennifer Dunne

What does completing your degree mean to you? How do you feel it will improve your life and career?
Completing my degree is very exciting. I believe acquiring a bachelor's degree is going to open up many opportunities. I feel like I am creating a better life for myself and my son. I will be able to have a career instead of a job! I will be able to spend more time with my son, and better support him as a single mom.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Extended Campus? What did you like about this method of education?
I chose to complete my degree online because it was more convenient for my situation. I started when I was working full time and newly married. I did not have time to attend formal classes and found that this style of education really worked for me. I took a bit of time off and came back after I found myself divorced and a new mother. I felt like this was the best way for me to get ahead and receive a bachelor's degree.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?

I really enjoyed Meaghan Houska's online course, Art for Teachers. She was very supportive of all of her students, wanted us all to succeed and get the most out of the class. My advisor Polly Jeneva has always been very helpful - from the first time I met her over 12 years ago to recent phone tag messages.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
My Ecampus degree has allowed me to be accepted into the library media graduate program at Portland State. I will soon be able to work in an elementary school.
