Randy Grimsey - An Example for My Children

Randy Grimsey

What does completing your degree mean to you? How do you feel it will improve your life and career?
It means the chance to improve in my career, and possibly pursue a master's degree.

After literally failing out of college when I was younger, the completion of my degree gives me a sense of closure and accomplishment. It also sets the right example for my children. Seeing me graduate should provide some incentive for them to follow through in their own educational goals.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Extended Campus? What did you like about this method of education?
This was the only way I could have finished my degree. Traditional classes conflicted with work and other activities, so I liked the flexibility to study and learn around my own schedule.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?

I had several excellent instructors throughout my time at OSU, but the one that comes to mind for really making me think beyond the simple solutions to complex problems was Dr. Bob Ehrhart. He challenged me to communicate more effectively through writing and to acknowledge the validity of competing ideas concerning ecological systems.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
Earning my degree gives me a sense of closure. This concludes an almost 20-year education endeavor. With my degree, I may be able to be promoted within my current company or start an entirely new career!
