Steve Ellis

Steve Ellis, who has worked as a ranch manager and bartender in Central Oregon, wanted to go back to school but chose to stay in Bend. Distance education suited him for two reasons, "I have a ranch that I couldn't sell! And the distance education program works around your schedule."

Steve chose OSU for his interest in Environmental Sciences, specifically conservation. Taking on dual majors, Steve finished his Environmental Sciences requirements winter term 2001, and will complete a Natural Resources degree next year. Steve, who now calls himself an "educated bartender," says his future career preferences include working for an agency or doing scientific research on mountains and rivers for a private firm.

Steve's words of wisdom for other distance students are, "Start slowly; get to know the difference between face-to-face instruction and the variety of distance technologies offered."
