OSU’s online business degree to meet consumer demand in Oregon, nationwide

June 25, 2015  ·  2 minutes  ·  By Tyler Hansen

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Responding to the needs and desires of learners throughout the state and beyond, this fall Oregon State University will launch a bachelor’s program online in business administration.

The degree, which will position profession-ready students for successful careers, is offered by Oregon State’s College of Business and delivered online by OSU Ecampus. According to a 2013 statewide needs assessment conducted by OSU and Eduventures, business administration is the top subject area of choice for prospective adult learners who are interested in continuing their education in an online or partially online format.

“Based on the statewide assessment and feedback from educators throughout the state, we know that the online business degree is needed to be able to serve those who can’t be full-time students or come to campus,” said Jim Coakley, the College of Business associate dean for academic programs. “This degree will reach students in all parts of Oregon and beyond.”

The program was developed by accomplished Oregon State faculty and focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship and experiential learning. Students in the program will be equipped with the requisite tools to make an immediate impact as professionals.

The program also allows community college students to complete their bachelor’s degree from an accredited business school without relocating to Corvallis.

Ecampus bachelor’s degree programs were ranked fifth in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in January. Ecampus delivers 20 undergraduate and 22 graduate programs online to learners in all 50 states and more than 40 countries.

“Our mission is to provide learners with access to high-quality programs that help them finish their degrees and advance in their careers,” said Ecampus executive director Lisa L. Templeton. “This is an exciting partnership that enables students in Oregon and around the world to study a subject they are passionate about.”

The College of Business and Ecampus are also partners in providing an MBA in the hybrid format with two options: executive leadership and business analytics. The format offers the flexibility of online courses and the value of in-person meetings, 80% of the delivery is online, with the face-to-face meetings delivered in Portland.
