Perez lauded by Online Learning Consortium for early achievement in student success

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Marleigh Perez, Ed.D., the director of student success at Oregon State University Ecampus, was selected by the Online Learning Consortium as the recipient of the 2020 Bruce N. Chaloux Scholarship for Early Career Excellence.
This scholarship recognizes individuals achieving extraordinary accomplishments in the field of online education at an early stage in their careers and is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to online education.

In Perez’s three years with Oregon State Ecampus, she has been instrumental in advancing student success and persistence for the university’s online learners and championing work that serves students from underrepresented communities.
Some of Marleigh’s most notable work includes:
- Spearheading the inception and launch of a robust Native American community support initiative in partnership with the OSU Office of Institutional Diversity. She drives connection with Indigenous students from around the nation through cross-campus collaboration and individual support.
- Advocating for rigorous support efforts for students from all walks of life, quantifying student engagement and a sense of belonging to improve procedures and success methodology.
- Effectively launching and supporting a mentorship program for the OSU Ecampus computer science program to track its impact on alumni engagement, student retention and overall program investment.
“Marleigh’s accomplishments paired with her passion for student success have allowed OSU Ecampus to thrive in our efforts to serve diverse learners worldwide,” said Lisa L. Templeton, the Ecampus associate provost. “Her thoughtful leadership, steadfast work ethic and social justice mindset continues to benefit students and the field of higher education at large.”
This award is both prestigious and competitive. The OLC is regarded as a leader in advancing the quality of online learning worldwide, serving thousands of educators annually with expert guidance and resources about online education.
“Award recipients were hand-selected by our esteemed board of directors and awards selection committee for their exemplary contributions to the field,” said Jennifer Mathes, CEO of the OLC. “These individuals are not only making a difference within their organizations; they are elevating our community’s efforts in advancing quality online and blended learning experiences designed to reach all learners.”
Marleigh is among an elite group of OLC awardees at Oregon State. Most recently, the OSU fisheries, wildlife, and conservation sciences online degree program won the John R. Bourne Outstanding Online Program Award.
