Family history shifted her path to OSU, where she indulges her passion for the environment
Prior to exploring my options with different universities and modes of instruction, I wasn’t planning on going to college.
Boy, am I glad that idea didn’t stick.
I found out about Oregon State University Ecampus through my parents, who both attended the brick-and-mortar campus in Corvallis way back in 1980s. (Sorry, guys.)

My family has moved around a lot throughout the years, and we have been lucky enough to visit and live in some really incredible places. I went to an international high school in Perth, Australia, and had the opportunity to meet some amazing lifelong friends and connect with a beautiful part of the world.
My love of travel and my family’s nomadic nature made OSU Ecampus a very appealing option. Fast forward to me now, nearing the end of my junior year. I expect to graduate around fall 2021 with a double degree in sustainability and sociology with an option in environmental and natural resources.
I think my favorite part about Ecampus, besides the community and approachability of all the faculty, is the overall flexibility allowed through online classes. I became an aunt late last year, and I was able to finish the majority of my fall term courses while visiting family and celebrating the holiday season in Western Australia.
When I graduate, I am hoping to apply to graduate school on the Oregon State campus in Corvallis. I want to continue my education before pursuing a career that involves conservation, environmental justice or really anything to do with environmental sustainability.
Having my family’s (including my dog Poppy’s) unending support has meant everything to me. I am forever grateful to them, and to OSU Ecampus for allowing me to achieve goals that I once thought would be impossible.
I am excited for the next few years to come and can’t wait to be spending them at Oregon State. Go Beavs!
The OSU Ecampus staff thanks Carlee for sharing her experience as a double major in sustainability and sociology online through the Oregon State Everywhere campaign.
