‘Golden ticket’ degree: Digital communication arts online

Do you know the meaning of “new media”? If not, don’t worry. People ask what it means all the time. Either way, it’s safe to assume that you interact with and consume new media with nearly every waking hour. It’s how we get our information, how we engage with friends and family, how we entertain ourselves. And it’s the foundation of Oregon State University’s digital communication arts bachelor’s degree program.

An online business analytics degree for a data-driven workforce

Given its ubiquity across industries, analytics skills are in high demand in the job market, and research shows the trend is expected to continue. That’s, in part, why Oregon State Ecampus launched its online business analytics bachelor’s program. “(Companies) realize by analyzing this data, they can identify new solutions to optimize their business practices and to identify new sources of income,” says Bin Zhu, associate professor of business information systems in the College of Business.

Toby Long looks off in the distance. As a way to move up at work, Toby earned his business administration bachelor's degree online through Oregon State University Ecampus in 2019.

Learning how to move up at work and get an education

Not long ago, Toby Long constantly found himself trying to schedule work around his school schedule. He loved his job at Dutch Bros, and he wanted to move into a management position, but when it came to attending college on-campus in Sacramento, he just couldn’t get the flexibility he needed to keep moving forward at work. Then Toby found Oregon State Ecampus and its online bachelor’s degree in business administration.

With a career in the U.S. Air Force, Chris Burke has worked at odd hours, been deployed overseas and mastered the art of balancing a job and raising three children. That’s why when he was looking into online bachelor’s degree programs a few years ago, he searched for one that was both flexible and veteran-friendly. He found Oregon State University, and through OSU Ecampus he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration 100% online.

Todd Van Hess, Oregon State Ecampus business administration graduate

Leading by example: Going back to college as a parent

Like all good dads, Todd Van Hess wants the best for his three children. He knows that their best chance to lead successful lives is for them to earn college degrees when the time comes. And like all good dads, Todd knows that if he’s going to hold his kids to a certain standard, he needs to lead by example. Last June, he supplied the best example possible when he walked across a stage at Oregon State University’s annual commencement ceremony and accepted his diploma after earning his degree online through Oregon State Ecampus.

Lisa Frasieur, OSU Ecampus business administration graduate, holds a black tablet in an office-like setting.

Your seat at the table is out there. To claim it, you have to stand up.

Twenty years into her career as an accountant, Lisa Frasieur felt like she was a peg below her peers. Truth be told, she was. “The first time I sat with our auditors, they asked me where I went to school,” she says now. “I didn’t have a degree, and it was embarrassing.”

Up in the air, but laying a strong foundation

Ask most college students and they’ll tell you their future career plans are up in the air. But for Hannah Thelen, her current career is – literally. Hannah is an airborne cryptologic linguist in the United States Air Force. By pairing the extensive skills she gains through her business administration degree with the steadfast determination of serving in the Air Force, she has big plans to work in marketing or accounting for a large Pacific Northwest company that aligns with her passion for the outdoors.
