Christine Lewy – Transfer student makes permanent home at OSU

B.S. in Human Development and Family Sciences
Tualatin, Ore.

What does earning your OSU degree mean to you?
Graduating from OSU not only is important to me but also to my family. Completing my degree means I'm better able to support my family and my son, and I have proven to myself that I could do it while raising a child. I transferred from a different college and truly felt at home at OSU. I love the campus, the professors and the student atmosphere. My years at OSU will be treasured because they were truly some of the best, most exciting years of my life.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Extended Campus? What did you like about this method of education?
It means so much to me to be able to complete my degree online from OSU. Once I had my son, I wasn't able to attend on-campus classes at OSU. I thought that I wouldn't be able to complete my degree, until I found out about Ecampus. Being able to take classes online any time of day was a blessing for me and my family. I was able to be there for my family and my son, and also be able to finish my college education.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?
Brandi Hall is my advisor and she is amazing. When I would call and say, “This is Christine Lewy,” she would always remember me, which made me feel like I wasn't just a number. She got me checked into the Ecampus system and helped me plan my degree. I cannot say enough good things about Brandi. She honestly made my experience at Ecampus wonderful, and I really hope future Ecampus students will be able to experience her caring gestures and helping attitude.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
By getting my degree, I'll be able to continue my education and get a teaching credential/master's degree. I feel so accomplished to have completed my college education and knowing how hard I worked. Even through everything that was going on in my life, I still am graduating with honors. I feel a huge amount of accomplishment and that makes me a better mother, wife and stronger person. My college years have also given me so much useful knowledge that I can apply to everyday life, which will only enrich it and make my future that much more rewarding!
