Emily Rinck – Back to finish the job and leaving with a job well done

Emily RinckB.S. in Horticulture
Cottage Grove, Ore.

What does earning your OSU degree mean to you?
Earning my degree means many things to me: First, stability – that I make a living to support my family. Second, a sense of accomplishment – that I have come back and finished what I started 10 years ago. Finally, I feel honored that I have had the privilege to work and learn with such incredible professors and fellow students.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Extended Campus? What did you like about this method of education?
I chose to pursue an online degree because it worked well with my lifestyle. I am married with two boys and I work full time. Online classes enabled me to continue supporting my family while working towards my goals and a sounder future for my family.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?
Each instructor that I encountered was very encouraging. My advisor, Autumn Granger, has definitely been my champion from the beginning. With every email she offered information, encouragement and advice. My experience with OSU was made better with her guidance.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
The knowledge that I have obtained with the horticulture program has increased my employability by leaps and bounds. Throughout this process I have met many people who have helped prepare me for my future in horticulture and who are potential employers for a horticulture career.
