2012 OSU Ecampus graduates

Jacklyn Richins – It was difficult, but that was all part of the fun

Jacklyn RichinsB.S. in Liberal Studies
Tualatin, Ore.

What does earning your OSU degree mean to you?
It means that I am one of the first members of my family to receive a bachelor's degree. It means that my daughter can see what success is and that obtaining an education is important and fun. It also means opportunity – opportunity for further education and an exceptional career of my choice.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Extended Campus? What did you like about this method of education?
I chose this method because it allowed me to go to school, raise my daughter and work full time. In addition to education, I gained experience. I loved the Ecampus program because I love to read and it is based on reading and it allowed me to work at my own pace while still sticking to a schedule.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?
Professor Shelley Nelson offered words of encouragement, let me see my full potential and offered courses that were not only difficult, but fun and therefore allowed students to succeed in manners they may not have otherwise.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
Having this degree make me feel better about myself in general. It will allow me to pursue a career in behavioral sciences (i.e. anthropology or sociology) that I may never have had the opportunity to pursue before. This degree, or the process of obtaining this degree, has improved my life by simply giving me an education and helping me grow as an individual.
