Certificate curriculum
The coursework in the Graduate Certificate in Engineering Management is designed to give you an advanced understanding of engineering management principles that will ease your transition into leadership.
All courses are developed and taught by faculty in the College of Engineering. The classes focus on the application of engineering principles to the planning and operational management of an organization. By the time you complete the program, you’ll be prepared to move into a management role.
Required courses
This is an 18-credit certificate program that consists of four core courses and one elective course. Depending on course credit combinations, you may end with more credits than the minimum of 18 required. Certificate requirements and curriculum details are available on OSU’s academic catalog.
- IE 571 – Project Management in Engineering (3)
- IE 581 – Operations Management (4)
- IE 582 – Introduction to Management for Engineers and Scientists (4)
- IE 583 – Advanced Engineering Economic Analysis (4)
- Elective – Once admitted, consult with your advisor on elective options.
Math requirements
To succeed in this program, a basic understanding of calculus (differential and integral), matrix algebra, and probability and statistics is necessary.
A pathway to a master’s degree
The specialized knowledge you gain through the engineering management graduate certificate program may serve as a pathway to Oregon State’s 45-credit online Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering with Engineering Management Option.
You may transfer all 18 of this certificate’s credits toward the M.Eng. program, and we recommend applying for the master’s program after completing between 12 and 15 credits toward your certificate.
