Labs: General Chemistry – Online
Online General Chemistry sequences have different lab delivery methods.
For general chemistry (100-level courses) the lab component is included within the courses and is delivered using virtual chemistry experiments provided by Online Labs. Everything is done online so a visit to OSU is not required.
How online labs work
In a simulated laboratory, students retrieve materials, follow the steps of the scientific method and witness simulated reactions. Check out a sample "virtual" lab or view a demo on onlinechemlabs.com. The courses also feature exciting video modules highlighting key concepts with chemical demonstrations.
Labs for the 200-level General Chemistry sequence are offered in an intensive 3-day-weekend format at OSU’s main campus in Corvallis, OR. Students may opt to take the lab during the same term as the lecture, during the summer in a 9-day continuous series, or not at all. Students should check with their advisor to determine whether labs are required for their course of study. Labs must be taken in order.
Click on each course to be taken to the Course Schedule to find out when the courses are offered.
| Online Lecture Course | Lab Course | Notes |
| CH 231 | CH 261 | CH 261 can be taken simultaneously or following CH 231. |
| CH 232 | CH 262 | CH 231 is prerequisite for CH 232. CH 262 can be taken simultaneously or following CH 232. |
| CH 233 | CH 263 | CH 232 is prerequisite for CH 233. CH 263 can be taken simultaneously or following CH 233. |
Please note: Because the lab courses CH 261, 262 and 263 are OSU on-campus courses, they follow the OSU Corvallis Campus tuition model. Students that need labs but prefer not to travel may be able to find General Chemistry labs offered separately at an institution near their home. The CH 231/232/233 online lecture sequence combined with the CH 261/262/263 lab sequence satisfies OSU's undergraduate Bacc core requirements.
