Jan Jaroncyk - A true milepost

B.S. Liberal Studies

What does completing your degree mean to you? How do you feel it will improve your life and career?
Completing a four-year degree has been a lifelong dream that was postponed due to finances, career and raising a family. Now, our children are grown and I've retired from my career. At age 53, living in a small, remote town on the coast, I thought I would never have the chance to go back and finish my education. But OSU Ecampus saved that dream. I finished all my upper-division classes from home, and the classes were first-rate. Though I did not need the degree for my career, it has made me believe in myself and believe that I really could finish what I started so long ago.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Extended Campus? What did you like about this method of education?
Because we live on the Oregon Coast, about 65 miles from the nearest big town and far from any university, I would not have been able to complete my degree any other way.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?

All of the advisors and professors have been helpful and supportive over the years, but one person I have really appreciated is Cindy Lehto in Ecampus Student Services. She always had the answers I needed, great follow-through and her cheerful disposition made it a real pleasure to work with her. Thanks, Cindy!

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
Though I am not planning to start a new career, it is nice to know that I have something to put on my resume that is tangible and represents a true milepost in life. A person can lose almost anything they obtain in life, except an education. That can never be taken away.
