Melissa Peterson – Mighty fine fruit to go with all that labormelissa peterson

M.S. Science and Math Education
Sellersville, Pa.

What does completing your degree mean to you? How do you feel it will improve your life and career?
Completing my degree has been one of the hardest and most rewarding things I have done for my career. Beyond the skill set that I have built during my time at OSU, my degree is legitimizing my work within my chosen career.

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Extended Campus? What did you like about this method of education?
I chose to complete my degree online because there was not a similar program in my area. The free-choice learning program is the only program of its kind that I know of, and I could not move to Oregon to complete my degree. A distance program was my only choice.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?
Dr. John Baek was of immense help during my work. Not only did he work as my advisor, he went out of his way to find or build classes which met my needs as a student, and he never forgot the time zone differences when I needed advice over the phone.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
Not only does my degree allow me to move upward within the zoo and museum field, it also allows me to propose my own projects, as I now have the evaluative background to do so.
