2012 OSU Ecampus graduates

Ann Bacon – Providing inspiration and earning family bragging rights

B.S. in Natural Resources
Grants Pass, Ore.

What does earning your OSU degree mean to you?
It’s a lifetime dream come true. I have worked on this degree for over 10 years. Aside from having three beautiful children and a husband who adores me, this is the accomplishment of my lifetime. My children will grow to see that even at 40 you never stop learning and you never give up on your dreams!

Why did you choose to complete your degree online through OSU Ecampus? What did you enjoy about this method of education?
I couldn't attend classes on the OSU campus because we never lived in Corvallis. Ecampus made it possible to go to OSU, which I have wanted to do since I was in high school. With small children, Ecampus made is possible to attend classes in the middle of the night and in my slippers if I had to. I remember many nights warming baby bottles and watching streaming videos for class at the same time.

Did you have an instructor or advisor who was influential in helping you succeed as a distance student?
Marge Victor was a huge part of my success. She never held anything back and would always give me the very best advice. I would have had a harder time without her encouragement and her pushing me to do my best. She kept me from quitting more than once. I am just so disappointed that she retired before she could see me graduate.

What will your Ecampus degree allow you to do that you were unable to do before?
I will be the only one of my siblings to have finished college. Bragging rights at Christmas are worth all the years I put into this! Seriously, this degree will open doors for me for careers that would have never been possible for me before. I no longer have to work minimum wage jobs and can show my children that with hard work you can achieve anything.
